Biography of Clarissa E. McAdoo, Executive Director Clarissa E. McAdoo is the Executive Director of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, a provider of affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate income citizens of Suffolk. As chief executive officer and secretary of the Board of Commissioners, she is responsible for the administration of all Authority affairs including managing 5 public housing communities, rental assistance programs and intermediary care for the mentally challenged. In addition, she is the agency’s administrator for tax-exempt bond initiatives statewide. Clarissa is also the agency’s lead in neighborhood revitalization efforts to include the establishment of redevelopment and conservation project areas since 1996. Prior to joining SRHA, Clarissa spent 4 years with the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a Senior Community Development Specialist and as Manager of Development Operations. Clarissa grew up in the Bronx, New York and Suffolk and has a BA degree in Social Work from Virginia State University in Petersburg and has completed the Community Development Executive Program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Currently, she is a newly appointed member of the Hampton Roads Workforce Development Board and a member of the Youth Council since 2003. She is a member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, the Public Housing Authority Directors Association, the Virginia Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, the Virginia Downtown Development Association, and the National Low Income Housing Coalition. Clarissa has also been active in community activities with the Zonta Club of Hampton Roads, Suffolk Domestic Violence Task Force and other local civic and charitable organizations. Clarissa lives in Suffolk and has a daughter Paris who is a third year architect student at Hampton University. |
