Housing Choice Voucher Program/Section 8
What happens when my application is submitted? Your name will be placed
on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list based on when the
application was received.
Will my name also be placed on the Public Housing Waiting list? No.
Your application, when taken ,will be only for the Housing Choice Voucher Program
waiting list.
How long will I have to wait for a Housing Choice Voucher ? The wait will
depend on your rank on the waiting list and the amount of funds available to
provide rental assistance under the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
What happens if my name comes up to the top of the list and funds are
available? You will be called in for an update interview to determine if you
are eligible for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. If you are determined
eligible you will be required to attend a voucher issuance briefing to learn the
program rules, and a voucher will be issued to you at the end of the session.
Can I live in my current place of dwelling if the owner is willing to
participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program ? Yes you can, as long as
the unit is in the jurisdiction of Suffolk and the unit is able to pass a HUD
required Housing Quality Standard (HQS) Inspection.

Public Housing
Is SRHA accepting
applications for Public Housing?
Yes. Applications are accepted every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to
11:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may obtain an application
from Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Which
housing complex
does SRHA own? Chorey Park, Cypress Manor, Parker Riddick Village, Hoffler
Apartments and Colander Bishop Meadows.
Do
public housing residents have to pay for any services, programs or activities
provided by the housing authority?
No. All programs and activities are funded through the
Public Housing Drug Elimination and ROSS grants.
If a resident
needs additional resources, how would the Resident Services Department assist?
The Public Housing Resident Services department serves
each community by assisting residents with internal programs and/or outside
referral resources and services.
How can a
resident contact the Resident Services Department?
The Resident Services
Specialist is available Monday through Friday (8:15 a.m. until 5:15 p.m.) at the main
office located at 530 East Pinner Street; Suffolk, VA, or they can contact the office at
(757) 539-2100 extension 3014.

Grants and
Loans
How Do I apply for the
Elderly Rehabilitation Loan Program? An application must be submitted
to Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority with a copy of the household
gross income, current/paid real estate taxes, proof of property ownership and all
utility and miscellaneous bills.
Doest Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority have grants available to
repair my home? Presently, there are no additional grants available.
