Elderly Low Interest Loan Program Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority accepts applications from Suffolk citizens to participate in the Elderly Low Interest Loan Program. This program makes it possible for qualified participants to make emergency repairs to their homes at an affordable cost. With a maximum term of 7 years and a 2% interest rate, citizens may have a minimum monthly payment of $31.87. To qualify for the program, citizens must own their home in the City of Suffolk, be over 62 years of age, have current paid real estate taxes, and have gross-earned household income at or below 50% of the median income for the City of Suffolk based on the Department of Housing and Urban Development adjusted for family size. Priority will be given to persons who have not received assistance in the last 15 years. Grant - Citywide Emergency Home Repair Program The City of Suffolk City Council appropriated $50,000.00 in FY2005-2006 Community Development Block Grant Funds. The program is administered by Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority to assist low-income homeowners to make emergency repairs to their homes. To qualify for the program, citizens must own and live in their home in the City of Suffolk, have current and paid real estate taxes, and have gross-earned household income at or below 80% of the median income for the City of Suffolk based on the Department of Housing and Urban Development adjusted for family size. Each eligible homeowner is able to receive up to $7,500.00 in grant funds to make the necessary repairs to their home. As of April 2002, Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority has assisted 80 homeowners. All applicants are taken from a waiting list. The waiting list is closed to new applicants.
