Thank you for visiting Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (SRHA) website. This site has been created to provide helpful information to our residents, current and potential landlords, vendors/contractors and the public in general.  You will have access to important information and insight into the various programs and services we provide. The content will be updated frequently, so please visit often. 

Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority has been in the business of providing housing in the City of Suffolk since 1973.

Tracey C. Snipes was appointed as the Executive Director/CEO of Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority in October 2016 after serving for 18 years at the agency in various positions.  She currently serves on the board of Healthy Suffolk and The Advisory Board for the Food Bank of South Hampton Roads.  She holds the designation of Property Management Certification, Capital Improvement Fund Specialist and Procurement Contract Management through Nan McKay and Executive Management and Leadership Certification through NAHRO. 

Ms. Snipes’ primary responsibilities include developing and implementing high-level strategies, making major organizational decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of the organization, and acting as the main point of communication between the Board of Commissioners and the SRHA. Ms. Snipes handles the daily operations to include the oversight of the following departments:

  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Department (formerly known as Section 8)
  • Multifamily Housing Department
  • Maintenance Department
  • Resident Services Department
  • Human Resources Department
  • Accounting Department
  • Procurement and Compliance Department

"My goal for the agency is to create more affordable housing in the City of Suffolk to accommodate families who need a 'hand up'.  Through partnerships and creative thinking, we will assist the City of Suffolk in making Suffolk a great place to live.  The motto for the agency is Changing Housing, Changing Minds, Changing Lives and we will do this one family at a time."

Tracey has been married to Paul Snipes since 1988 and they have 2 children, Taylor and Gabrielle Snipes and 1 grandson Jett Snipes.  Tracey is a native of Summerville, SC and has lived in Suffolk, VA since 1993.
