Heron's Landing

Heron's Landing, sixty (60) studio apartments at 2133 S. Military Highway in Chesapeake, Virginia. The apartments will include comprehensive supportive services for formerly homeless single adults from the South Hampton Roads area. Heron's Landing is a regional solution to end homelessness and includes funds from Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk.

Each unit is approximately 350 square feet and contains a kitchenette with full refrigerator and range oven, full bathroom, and closet. Furnishings are provided in each apartment, including a bed, dresser, table, and two chairs. In addition to apartments, the building has a community room with kitchen, a fitness room, a computer room, laundry facilities, a front desk, and staff offices. The front desk is staffed sixteen hours per day, and a resident manager is on-call in the evenings. The building has an extensive security system, off-street parking, and access to public transportation.

Heron's Landing is permanent supportive housing. Residents sign leases and pay 30% of their income in rent. The minimum monthly payment is $50. Support services are available to help residents stabilize and improve their health, incomes, and housing. 

Eligibility
Applicants must by single and homeless as defined by HUD's definition of a homeless family.

Homeless Families will be defined as:
Lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence: AND
Have a primary nighttime residence that is supervised public or private shelter providing temporary accommodations (including welfare, hotels, congregate shelters and transitional housing; or an institution providing temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized.

Families who are residing with friends or relatives on a temporary basis will not be included in the homeless definition. 

Applying
At this time the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority is  accepting applications for Heron's Landing Apartments.

Completed applications can be dropped off at SRHA's main office located at 530 E. Pinner Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
