Mandated Smoke Alarm Changes Take Effect December 29, 2024

The Consolidated Appropriations Act mandates additional smoke alarm requirements.

Smoke Detectors in federally assisted housing units must meet these characteristics:

• Hard Wired
• or a 10-year non-rechargeable sealed tempered resistant battery-powered

SRHA Inspector agents and Compliance Staff will begin inspecting for these requirements.
