The Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority is seeking a committed and dedicated resident of the Public Housing or Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program to serve as Resident Commissioner on the SHA Board of Commissioners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend monthly meetings every 4th Tuesday at 5 pm and 6 pm.
- Attend special event functions.
- Attend special meetings as they arise.
- Provide own transportation.
- Convey community needs.
- Participate in community events with Commissioners.
- Work as a Team with other dedicated Commissioners.

WHO CAN APPLY?
All residents of Public Housing or the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program who are 21 years of age and older and whose name appears on the lease of an SHA property or an SHA-assisted property are eligible to submit a LETTER OF INTEREST stating an interest in this opportunity to serve on the Board of Commissioners.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Submit a LETTER OF INTEREST to include the following:
- A statement on why you want to be a Resident Commissioner
- A campaign statement not to exceed paragraph (4 sentences.) This statement will be provided to all
residents along with a mail-in ballot. - Provide your LETTER OF INTEREST on or before June 7, no no later than pm to:

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
LETTERS OF INTEREST will be reviewed to determine if eligiblity has been established. ie: on lease, in good financial standing with SHA. After a review, all residents on the lease of an property SRHA-assisted property will have the opportunity to cast a vote for a candidate using an official mail-in ballot that will be mailed to all residents once all the LETTERS OF INTEREST have been received.
- LETTER OF INTEREST received.
- Eligibility established.
- LETTER OF INTEREST accepted.
- Mail-in ballots to be mailed Tuesday, June 11.
- Candidates may start campaigning.
- Mail-in ballots must be received by mail to SHA by Friday, June 21, 2019 by 5 pm.
- Mail-in ballots will be opened on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 3pm.
IMPORTANT DATES
- Resident Commissioner LETTER OF INTEREST due by Friday, June 7, 2019 no later than 5pm.
- Mail-in Ballots will be mailed by Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
- Mail in Ballots must be received by mail to SHA by Friday, June 21, 2019 by 5 pm.
- The Resident Commissioner Election will take place on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 3 pm.
